case study

Teacher Jamil was already working at City of Oxford College, part of Activate Learning, when the opportunity arose to enrol on a PGCE course to gain new skills: ‘The course has been extremely helpful in my teaching career, as it requires us to explore and learn about different learning theories, curriculum design, their application to learning and more. I have found it informative, creative and motivating.’

Jamil particularly enjoyed the innovative use of technology and the great range of facilities available to him at college: ‘Both the quality of teaching and facilities are excellent. Using Google Classroom as virtual learning environment is great. There is also a fairly big classroom in the library to suit our needs.’

‘I would say to anyone who would like to be a teacher to go for this course, as it is very collaborative and challenging in a positive way.’

Jamil is now hoping to apply the knowledge and skills learnt on the course in his own teaching, as well as exploring other higher studies options.

‘I chose City of Oxford College because it offered my course as a full time option, which really suited me.

‘The quality of teaching has been exemplary, although the work-based learning has taken some adjusting to, because it is so different from any other experience.  I have enjoyed the learning process, as it has challenged me and I have learnt so much that is relevant to my work.

‘I would advise anyone who is thinking about doing this course to come here, as there is so much support available, if you need it. Especially for students like me, who have not studied for a long time.

‘After my studies, I hope to develop my current role and possibly look for a different job with more responsibility, as I feel I will be prepared.’
