Barbering Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship

This Intermediate Apprenticeship programme is ideally suited for individuals who are working in a barbers shop and want to get an NVQ Level 2 in Barbering. It is for people interested in cutting the hair of men and boys.

What do I learn?
Not only will you learn about cutting hair but also other issues related to barbering, like hygiene, disposing of chemicals and working in a team.

The Apprenticeship is a framework of qualifications consisting of the following:
• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering
• Functional Skills in Communication Level 1
• Application of Number Level 1
• Employment Rights and Responsibilities

All aspects of training will be completed either in college or in-house at the salon depending on employer preference. An assessor will regularly visit you in the workplace to gather work-based evidence.

Apprenticeships are designed to let you benefit from real life work experience which you will get day-to-day in your job. This experience is supported by theoretical knowledge gained at college in both classroom and workshop based sessions/assessments.

You gain recognised qualifications and valuable work experience, making you more employable in the industry.
What do I need?
There are no entry requirements for this course.

You will be asked to complete an initial assessment and then attend an interview with a member of staff who will be delivering the course.
What do I gain?
On successful completion of the Barbering Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship programme, you can progress to a Barbering Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship or Hairdressing Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.
What else do I need to know?
You will be working with all sorts of different people so a friendly nature is essential.

Studied Level 3 in Beauty Therapy at City of Oxford College – part of Activate Learning

When retail assistant Miranda Labaurn decided in her mid-twenties that she needed a change of direction, a career in beauty therapy appealed to her. Fast forward to 2014, and after just two years Miranda is now a full-time beauty therapist at the brand new £6m Oxford Lifestyle Centre.

Having finished school without a clear idea of what to do next, Miranda worked in retail for a few years. However, by her mid 20s she felt she was stuck in a rut.
