ICT Level 3 Extended Diploma

Progress to higher education in computer science or prepare for IT-related careers such as IT support, web design, graphical animation and systems analysis with the Extended Diploma in IT.

With a broad spectrum of units on offer you can choose the areas that you excel in and enjoy the most.

What do I learn?
In year 1 you cover the following units:
• communication and employability skills in IT
• computer systems and information systems
• event-driven programming
• human computer interaction
• website production and management
• digital graphics and computer animation
• advanced spreadsheet skills

In year 2 you cover:
• software design and development
• systems analysis and design
• e-commerce
• database design
• developing computer games
• controlling systems using IT
• maths for IT practitioners
• network systems security
• 3D modelling

You are also expected to work towards the functional skills qualifications in English and maths. These are embedded into the assignments. There is an exam for each of the functional skills but the result does not affect the grade of the extended diploma.

Continuous assessment throughout the course based on both individual and group assignments and practical work.

All units are assignment-based, which requires both practical work and research carried out individually and in groups. There are syllabus-related visits throughout the course including a trip to Animation Station.
What do I gain?
Successful completion of this course means you gain the equivalent of three A-levels. The diploma is graded between PPP and DDD and UCAS points are derived from these grades. In addition you gain functional skills at Level 2 in IT and mathematics.
What do I need?
Applicants for a Level 3 programme will normally have at least 5 or more GCSEs grades A*-C including English and maths (including some subjects related to the proposed area of study) and/or a completed BTEC level 2 Diploma grade Merit or Distinction plus GCSE grade C or above or Functional Skills at level 2 in English and maths

What do I gain?
Following this Extended Diploma in IT you can progress to a course in higher education at university, or a job as an IT practitioner or technician.
What else do I need to know?
The fee for international students for the 2016 entrance is £6,300 per year.
