Activate Learning is launching a new BA (Hons) degree in Policing for 2018 entry, approved by the University of Northampton. The programme will be based at City of Oxford College.
The degree aims to give graduates the skills that they will need to pursue a career in the law and criminal justice sector.
Students will undertake theoretical learning - covering topics such as legislation, quality and diversity in the criminal justice system, investigating a crime scene, community policing and miscarriages of justice.
Students will also be given the opportunity to join the special constabulary or volunteer with the police in their second year, allowing them to obtain operational experience that will support their learning experience.
In the final year students will deepen their understanding of policing, undertaking an independent study module while looking at subjects such as protecting the public in greater depth.
Bill Hunt, Director of Higher Education at Activate Learning said: "We are delighted to be opening up new opportunities for students to study higher education through an exciting partnership with the University of Northampton.
“Activate Learning and the University of Northampton share a commitment to transforming lives through learning with a clear focus on employability and we look forward to working with the university in developing this new and exciting collaboration."
Bill Toyer, Academic Partnership Development Manager from the University of Northampton said:
“We are pleased to be working with such a forward thinking partner. Their ambition to transform lives through learning strikes a chord with the values of the University of Northampton and puts the student firmly at the centre of everything they do.
We are very much looking forward to developing this collaboration further over the coming years.”
This new programme builds on the expertise of Activate Learning who have provided policing higher education qualifications for the past five years.
This new degree provision is an exciting development in response to changes in the sector, as policing moves to becoming a graduate profession.
