City of Oxford College hosted the ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ SEND conference this week where professionals from the county looked at developing new programmes of study for young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
The conference covered a range of areas such as the Department for Education update on current reforms and hearing from a panel of City of Oxford College students who have taken part in a pilot supported internship scheme designed to increase the amount of young people with SEND getting into work.
Sue Moon, Head of Learning for Foundation Studies and LLD said: “Our students really enjoyed planning and hosting the event for the National Development Team for Inclusion. It was an excellent learning opportunity for them and enabled them to develop their skills in team work and organisation and planning. With support from their teachers and learning support assistants, they planned and catered a very professional conference. The positive feedback they received from the conference delegates has helped with their confidence and communication skills and was the icing on the cake!
