Activate Apprenticeships opens Engineering Centre of Excellence

An expanded Engineering Centre of Excellence opens in Oxford this month offering even greater facilities and expertise to apprentices and businesses.

The Centre of Excellence at the Activate Learning Technology Campus at Blackbird Leys in Oxford is at the heart of Activate Apprenticeships’ focus on engineering. ATG Training’s engineering team now becomes part of Activate Apprenticeships to form a team of specialist engineers who support over 400 apprentices with clients across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and the West Midlands.

Activate Apprenticeships is the region’s leading provider of apprenticeships with over 1,200 business clients including major employers BMW, Thames Water and Amey. The enlarged team extends the expertise available to clients and offers learners across the Activate Learning group more routes into apprenticeships and employment.

The Activate Learning Technology Campus in Oxford opened in September 2016 following an investment of £8m to build a high-spec facility for technology-related learning in Oxfordshire. The group is now investing in more workshops and facilities that will enhance the experience of students and equip them for the growing labour market in the region.

Jon Adams, Group Executive Director of Activate Learning and CEO of ATG Training, said:

"ATG Training became part of the Activate Learning group two years ago and since then we have been working to identify how we can best support our employers and learners now and in the future.

"Transferring our engineering team into Activate Apprenticeships at the Technology Campus in Oxford provides access to a brand new £8 million facility and increases the range of support for business clients and learners.”

Pablo Lloyd, CEO of Activate Apprenticeships added:

"We are pleased to bring all apprenticeship engineering specialists into one team, providing an even more comprehensive offer to apprentices and business clients. This industry-standard campus provides high-specification design and fabrication spaces, workshops and learning zones. Apprentices will be able to access a purpose-built electronics lab, electrical and machining workshops, resource centre and on-site canteen, all in an up-to-date training facility.”
