Introduction to Traditional Sprung Upholstery

We are delighted to announce a brand new 10 week traditional upholstery course to begin
22nd February 2018 . This introduction to sprung upholstery is for beginners (and those
who have completed the upholstered stool making workshop at Rycotewood) and will
teach the traditional craft techniques to build a sprung, hand-stitched and stuffed dining
chair. You must supply your own chair (advice can be given) and age old methods of
construction and classic materials such as coir and animal hair will be used in the
upholstery. All materials are included in the price (except for top fabric) and no tools are
required as they will be provided during the evenings. You will, however, have the
opportunity to buy tools through the college if you would like to continue working on your
project at home.

Course teaching will be over 10 Thursday afternoons 1pm - 6pm (with a half hour break).
Teaching will take place in our brand new upholstery workshop in small groups by
professional, award winning upholsterer Rachael Stevenson.
