Rycotewood welcomes new AMUSF Upholstery teacher, Rachael Stevenson

The popular Association of Master Upholsters course at Rycotewood Furniture Oxford will be taught in September by Rachael Stevenson in the specially built upholstery workshop.

Rachael has a background in Fashion and Textiles Design, achieving a distinction in her Master’s Degree, before following a path into upholstery. Rachael trained at the well-respected Wendy Shorter Interiors; winning awards from Kobe Fabrics in 2011 and 2012 as well as the Heico Fasteners UK Design Award for an innovative children’s chair in 2012.

Utilising her background in design, Rachael works as a creative upholsterer taking a holistic, artistic approach to each bespoke piece, considering carefully the construction methods, materials used and design aesthetics.

Drew Smith, Faculty Manager at City of Oxford College, said “Rachael’s arrival at Rycotewood enables our talented team to continue to deliver a diverse curriculum; upholstery complements the furniture making and furniture design courses in our brand new £20,000 purpose built upholstery workshop in the heart of Oxford.”

Rycotewood Furniture Oxford prides itself on combining traditional craft with challenging design and will be celebrating 80 years of furniture education excellence in the 2017/18 academic year.
